Day 265
Proverbs 24:27
Proverbs 24:27 Prepare thy work without, and make it fit for thyself in the field; and afterwards build thine house.
Today people tend to build their homes without thought to their income. Yes, they look at what they have in the bank, and they think their lifestyle will be sufficient for their desires. They have credit card balances that defy logic and eventually their debt catches up to them and they need to give up their lifestyle. That is doing things backwards or putting the cart before the horse as the saying goes.
Solomon told the people they were to prepare the land, plant their crops, and then build their home. Their crops were their livelihood. The more crops they had, the better their lifestyle. When it came to marriage, the man would spend a full year preparing his home for his bride – that meant not only building the house, but it meant taking care of his land, sowing his fields so he would have an income for his future wife and family. When he had everything ready, the fields harvested and the house built, it was time for the marriage ceremony.
As Christians, you also need to prepare, only you are not just preparing a home for yourself and your family, you are preparing your heart for the Holy Spirit to dwell in. With the Holy Spirit leading you in the direction you need to go, you will be able to take care of your fields and home. Your fields are the work God has for you to do. Your priority as a Christian is to spread the good news of Jesus Christ and his salvation bought and paid for by his blood on Calvary’s cross. When you do God’s work, God will take care of your home and all the other responsibilities you have. You won’t be scrambling to make ends meet, God will take care of everything.
Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. (KJV)
Mark 10:29 And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel’s,
30 But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life. (KJV)
Luke 18:29 And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God’s sake,
30 Who shall not receive manifold more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting. (KJV)
Jesus said the fields were ready for harvest, but the laborers were few. People were more interested in their own needs and not the needs of the kingdom.
John 4:35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then comes harvest? Behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.
36 And he that reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit unto life eternal: that both he that sows and he that reaps may rejoice together.
Luke 10:2 Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth laborers into his harvest.
You need to prepare the field before you build your home. When you do, God will take care of everything in your life.
Father, help me prepare my field, sow your Word, and harvest souls for your kingdom. Let your will be done in my life, so I will reap the reward you have for me – eternal life. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
