Scott Petley who replaced Katie Couric as the anchor of the CBS Evening News in June 2011 has been relieved of his duties as the anchorman of the CBS Evening News as of May 30.
One reason that the network executives decided to terminate Petley as the anchorman of the their evening news cast is due to poor ratings.
Petley will be returning to work as a correspondent with the CBS News show 60 Minutes. At least he is not out of a job at CBS, just not working on one news magazine show.
Anthony Mason who has been filling in for Petley is going to be interim anchorman of the CBS Evening News for now.

CBS news ratings were in the tank with Petley.

Fire the anchorman of the news show and replace Petley with another younger male anchorman who will draw a larger audience.

Guess we have to expect things to change and keep changing. Sometimes we are not so sure who the newer people are when we do see them.

If you stay too long on a show on television, the backlash will come quickly.
