A Letter To the Editor

Have you ever written a letter to the editor of a newspaper?
I used to write human interest stories for two different newspapers. One in West Virginia, when I lived there and a small newspaper in Virginia, after I moved here.
I came across a letter recently, that I wrote to the editor of a North Carolina newspaper a few years ago, when I lived in North Carolina.
I don’t know that if I share some of its content that I will be accused of plagiarism on myLot. It’s entirely my writing but I’m not sure how that works. If it was published, then I suppose it’s on record somewhere as being published.
I will tell you this: It was all about SPEEDING on the highway and ignoring the speed limits. When I first moved to North Carolina, I was appalled by the way people drive there. I thought they must think they are all Nascar drivers or something.
I do think now though, that it’s a problem in every state. It seems that most persons don’t understand the meaning of the word, LIMIT. Most people think it means that that’s how fast you MUST drive instead of the LIMIT that you are, by law, supposed to not exceed.
I set my cruise control most of the time, so that I will NOT exceed the speed limit. I have a clean driver’s record. No speeding tickets and no accidents that were my fault. Not even a fender bender.
What about you?

I drive like I write, at snail speed, but it has not always been the case. Up my late 30's I was buying sport cars, and there were days where I was driving very fast (I will not tell you how fast, you would not believe me). Then I got an accident where my car did several roll overs before crashing a wall fencing the garden of a house. Weird, I had nothing broken, and it was quite a miracle, but it changed my way of driving. During all these years I never got a speed ticket, and since I drive like a snail I got 2 to have exceeded the speed limit for less than 10 km/h

@IreneVincent I was young and I needed a warning. The accident I had made me think again at speed...

@topffer I'm glad you slowed down. You learned a lesson that might save your life MANY times.

It's definitely that way all over. My mom gets yelled at by both my brother and I for speeding. Shes got a lead foot most days. But has no tickets or accidents either

My youngest son and my daughter both have gotten numerous speeding tickets. It's ridiculous. Especially since there is no REAL reason to speed. If you're late, you're late. First of all, you should've started sooner. That's what I tell them. Secondly, they speed when there is no reason to speed.

I agree that people in North Carolina drive like maniacs. I live in a smaller city and sometimes the traffic is just crazily reckless. I have written many letters to the editor (not about speeding) and guest columns for newspapers both here and elsewhere.

I've been to your smaller city of Asheville, to visit the Biltmore. Nice place.
