Newish Grandmother

For years, I heard "older" people, who were grandparents, say that they enjoyed their grandchildren more (in some ways) than their own children. Of course, grandparents have a reputation for spoiling their grands. They are usually a lot more laid back with the kids too. When I was raising my children, I wondered why. I truly enjoyed all stages of raising my son and daughter, who are in their late 20's now. My daughter has two girls, ages 4 &1/2 and 10 months. My son has a daughter who is 6 months. (I'm so blessed that all my family lives locally. So I see them regularly.) I'm still a bit new at being "Amma", but I love it! And I think I've figured something out. Well, at least as it applies to me. The reason it's "easier" and more fun with my grands than it was with my own children, is because our limited times together are meant to be fun, bonding times. And I don't have the full responsibility of their care and well-being 24/7 and for the next 18 years or so! Sometimes, my sweet little girlies do wear me out, but it's a temporary tired and I can send them home. (Very cliche', I know.) But it's a happy, grateful tired.

Well, yes it is because these are not your own that you have to help raise and nurture, but at the same time you can be there for them, support them, love them, play with them and send them home. Yes, they will wear you out, but it is worth it

Thanks for your comment @KrauseHome. My grandma was important in my life, so I do cherish the opportunity to influence them in positive ways and provide good memories. I want to support my children too, by being available to help when they need a break occasionally.

Yes it is always nice because you don't have the full time responsibility I hear you. I do not have any grandchildren.

Lol! I know that feeling all too well. I have an almost 9 year old granddaughter and a newly 7 year old grandson who live in Manhattan. I don't get to see them as often as I'd like, due to their living 75 miles away and their busy lifestyle. My younger son is getting married in October and I'm hoping for more bundles of joy.
