"I already know I'm going to win this one" said my girlfriend as she challenged me to a music war. Music war is a game we play together. Having wildly different tastes in music, we play songs for each other until one of us "wins," usually by playing something really unexpected, out of character, or really cool (a story helps.) They can get fairly intense, and often turn into all nighters. Her sample: "Please, Mr. Please" by Olivia Newton John, "Let Her In" by John Travolta, "The Age of Aquarius" from the movie Hair," "Take Me or Leave Me" from Rent, "Let it Go" from Frozen. My sample: "Need You Tonight/Mediate" by INXS, "Human Nature" by Miles Davis, "For Whom the Bell Tolls" by Metallica, "Just Like Heaven" by The Cure, "Masterpiece" by The Temptations. Her strategy was to load me up with movie songs and soft rock, while, as always, I was all over the place, although I did get on a brief reggae kick. She went for the kill fairly quickly, however. Sticking with her movie theme, she broke out The Runaways' "Cherry Bomb," from the movie The Runaways. I might not have conceded, but it's very out of character for her, mainly because she just doesn't like the song. At all. Apparently, it's been stuck in her head for a couple days, which would be cool for me. Her, not so much. But it was enough. She wins again.
