We need to have new rules about what happens to students that cyberbully whether it be a student or teacher. This way they know in advance what happens when they do this.

And I don't understand why. It's like it is too much trouble or they don't want to deal with it.

Our school system takes a very hard line against bullying. Students caught bullying, whether at school or on social media, can face suspension, and if the behavior continues, can face criminal charges. We have 18 5th graders at one school right now facing criminal charges for their bullying behavior. Schools aren't the problem, though. Bullying results from parental failure to properly raise the child.

Social media is the source of so much of what's wrong in schools, from elementary to high schools, that something drastic needs to be done. First, parents need to stop buying their elementary and middle school kids smartphones. There is no legitimate reason for a kid that age to have one. Second, parents need to pay attention to what their kid is doing on line and stop them when they know the child is doing something inappropriate. Third, social media platforms need to start taking some responsibility to keep these kids off their platforms.
