Good morning, mylotters. Profile information

I just turned on all heaters so that the house will be cozy tonight for my party. Then I started mylotting and I came upon a problem. Several lotters write posts that only have their whole meaning if we know where the lotters are from. But they haven´t told us that piece of information so the post itself is not interesting enough so that we answer it. I got to wonder why would anyone of us omit the country we live in and I cannot have an answer. Do you have problems such as mine with some posts? Do you omit to say where you come from? Why?

There are posts that have nothing to do with where we live. But others do because they show either cultural, political or religion beliefs.

I used to have my state, but that meant nothing to myLotters unfamiliar with U.S. geography. I changed it to the United States. I've noticed several who have omitted their country, too. Hope they read your post and add it.

I don´t mind the state, but I have trouble with some posts if they don´t mention their country. Imagine if you wanted to talk about the politics in your country!

@DianneN This is not a good moment to talk about politics anywhere.

@marguicha You are right! However, there is no way I would want to discuss the politics in my country.

It is true that so many of us to come from other countries should we be posting where we are from or continue to let people guess I guess I never thought of it that way

As @valmnz just stated, some people would not understand about some of us having problems with the cold as they would not know we are in the southern hemisphere.

I, too, wish I knew where everyone was from. Sometimes I don't understand someone and can't figure out if they are just poor speakers or don't speak English as a first language. Or they don't have something in their country that I do but I don't know because I don't know where they are from. I do include my country but no other information.

We all need at least some information from the other people.

Mine says I am from Los Arcos which is not really correct because this is known as La Ribera of Navarra all around and nationwide. There is a Village named Los Arcos its true but nothing else. I am in La Ribera de Navarra which is quite extensive and very very hot at the moment. Goodnight all too much heat is not good for anyone.

I prefer heat to cold any day! Anyway, you put Los Arcos, Spain.

@marguicha The nearest thing I can put is Pamplona but we are nowhere near to that place. La Ribera is still La Ribera whatever they want to call it. Where I was born they call it Eastfield but really its Moseley Village I give up with them and their Maps.

I agree that knowing where someone is from helps. As I'm from New Zealand I make sure i state this often, as people forget this is the southern hemisphere. Just like you saying you have the heaters on. Some people think the northern hemisphere is all there is and have no basic understanding of seasons being different in other parts of the world.

Yes, I think it would be good if people would state where they are from.

There are many occasions where I got attracted by the title but when I read the discussion I couldn't really understand anything.

It happens to me too. And in some of those cases, our profile helps.

I have seen some say it's for privacy reasons or they don't see why it's important but your right sometimes you can't respond to their discussion without that knowledge. And privacy is just silly- if your that worried that you can't list your country than maybe you shouldn't be on social media of any kind...

I agree. You don´t have to mention your real name or the street where you live. But mentioning your country will not have anything to do with your privacy.

You are absolutely right. We can understand some discussions only if we know their country.I am unable to understand what privacy is being lost by giving the name of one's country'.

It doesn´t matter so much if you are talking about domestic subjects. But some people talk about politics and national holidays and we don´t know the context.

It is helpful to at least know what country or state a person is from. It does matter in interpreting posts here.

It is quite different if I say it is cold now and you know I live in the southern hemisphere or if you are freezing now in California

The internet has made the world a small place, and most people do it for personal reasons - as they do with their avatars. For personal reasons, the most l have said is that I was born in Guyana South America, but my grandparents and some other family members are from a few Caribbean islands - and I live in one of those islands.

That is enough to place you in the world. And that helps me understand your posts. But some people say nothing. If we are talking about climate, it is different if you live in the Caribbean than if you live in the Pole.
