I am a BAD Teacher Today...I Think SHE Is!

It is Sunday and I decided to have classes online. Whoah! I had my first class and the student was so late and the level is zero. I got irritated because the student’s connection is not good and decided to ask mother’s student to call the customer service. The mother started to shout at me. I don’t want the stress and mute my audio. I need to tag the student absent because of not waking up early with poor internet connection and it is also a good thing that she cannot able to evaluate me. Still, I followed the protocol. “Am I a bad teacher?” Image Credit: pixabay.com

Nah, they should be well ready for you when you teach. You did right. How frustrating this must be.

@Linda1234 I agree. Sometimes it doesn't happen, my friend. But then, I emphasized that during the class.

Was she shouting at you in Chinese? Maybe it was too early and you disturb her sleep. I hope you finally got connected to your student.

Yes, she is. I find it bad behavior. It is not my fault of disturbing her sleep. She is the one who booked the time slot for the class. No class was done.

@Shavkat _It's too bad you can't choose whom the company ask you to tutor. Even if online teaching is big in China there are many language teaching sites competing for customers. Like call centers, every so often you get a rude customer.

@josie_ I think I will choose to teach online over call center jobs. I think it is more convenient. I don't need to travel and wake up early morning. The salary is quite competitive, too.

No you are not a bad teacher. The student was irresponsible. The mother was shouting at you for nothing.

@Shavkat to start your first class like this can be very discouraging. Both the mother and the child are to be blamed. The mother should have corrected the child for being irresponsible and not make as if you are the one at fault.

@Nawsheen I agree. That's what I had thought of that time. It is the first class.

I agree. I am a pachyderm (thick face) on this kind of situation. If you can just see the mother's face, she looks like her child whining to the customer service. No stress for me.

For online classes, both the students and the teacher are supposed to have good internet connection and be on time. She was not expecting this class today? But shouting at the teacher is not a good practice.

I agree. I am using a wired connection and there are no hang-ups using it. The student is using wifi on her phone. Thus, she has a poor connection. What a day for dealing with her mother.

She needs to have good internet connection and be on time. Some of these students complain against their online teachers. In fact, they were the one who has the problem.

That does not make you a bad teacher. You were on time and the student wasn't. If the connection was not good why did the student want the mother to call customer service? Why did the mother think she had the right to yell at you? It is hard to know how it will go with teaching online and in person.

What a day to deal with. Instead of looking for the root cause of the problem, the mother shouted at you instead. Good thing we have those audio mute to silence the unnecessary noise. Have a great Sunday ahead!

No you were not, it is the student who was irresponsible and I don't understand why that mother was shouting at you instead of shouting on her child for not having proper internet connection. Even she was being irresponsible.

No you are not, the mother should not shout at you for any reson, It's not educational and respectable to do it infront of your students.
