Thanks to the bright ideas from Scott (@teamfreak16 ) there are always new themes for countdowns to pop up. Here's one he started with favorite songs that have a number in the title. I'm always up for a new countdown, so I joined in. Here's the next song on my list. #8: Down the Street to 301 - Johnny Cash Scott said he thinks we're going to match on a song (which would only be the second time). I think we are, too, but not on this song. There's another Cash song with a number in the title -- "25 Minutes to Go." This one wins in my books because of all the great memories. I still remember this album and putting it in the stack of albums to play on a Sunday afternoon when I was little. (Quick aside: if you wonder why I am the way I am when it comes to music, it's because my parents put me in charge of picking the albums to play on the record player. We always blame our parents, don't we? ) This is good 50s rockabilly song about young love (no, not the Sonny James song "Young Love" ). It's such a throwback to a far more innocent time, with references probably lost on today's world ("Saturday he mows the lawn, gets up at the crack of dawn, nine o'clock, the work's all done"...and the kids say, "Huh? Chores? What are those?!"). But we need to listen to songs like this, if for no other reason to remember what we've had and lost...in terms of great artists like Johnny Cash, and in terms of innocence. Down the Street to 301 Written by Jack Clement Recorded by Johnny Cash From Now Here's Johnny Cash, 1961 But for now there's lots of fun:
From his 1961 album Now Here's Johnny Cash. I do not own the rights to this song. LYRICS: There's a boy across the street, lately he's looked very neat Seems...
