In the 1980 comedy Airplane!, written and directed by Jim Abrahams and David and Jerry Zucker, a commercial flight is in trouble after the crew (and passengers) come down with food poisoning. Former fighter pilot Ted Striker (Robert Hayes,) who has developed an insane fear of flying, is the only passenger on board who can fly and land the plane. Striker's ex-girlfriend, Elaine (Julie Hagerty,) is a stewardess on the flight, and Ted is determined to win her back. Meanwhile, the plane is full of all sorts of wacky passengers, including two jive talking African Americans (Norman Alexander Gibbs and Al White,) whom nobody can understand (subtitles translate into proper English) except an old lady (Barbara Billingsley) who speaks jive. And so on. The film features great comedic turns by Lloyd Bridges, Robert Stack, Peter Graves, and Kareem Abdul Jabbar, as well as a loon named Johnny (Stephen Stucker) working in the control tower. It's Leslie Nielsen's Dr. Rumack, with Nielsen's deadpan delivery, that steals the movie, however. The laughter is nonstop, with one liners and sight gags throughout. If you are in desperate need of laughs, Airplane! should be at the top of your list, even if you've seen it a hundred times. (Info verified by Wikipedia)

I have a vague memory of the pilot turning into jello. I wonder if that is this movie.

I think so. Not 100% sure, because I did this from memory.

This is one of my favorite movies of all times, even as corny as it is. Non-stop laughs throughout. It looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue!

It looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue. A friend and I have a "secret handshake" before we start playing the weekly tournament. "Unger? Oveur. Oveur? Dunn," from Airplane! 2: The Sequel. And let's not forget the United Airlines "customer courtesy" training film from Airplane!

"Roger." "Huh?" "You're cleared for takeoff, over." "That's Captain Ouver." So many great moments.
