In Kolkata, Bengalies have fascination towards river fishes. Among them Hilsa or ilish has the best taste. Their oil is eaten with rice and it tastes marvellous. Their eggs are also tasty. They have omega 3 fatty acid which is good to reduce cholesterol and cardiac diseases. If anyone finds hilsa in the market the person will not buy any other fish. It is called the king of fishes.

In Bengali Prashuji, the fish is called Ilish. The best dish is sarshe ilish.

I am in the US so I doubt we would find that type of fish here I am sureI weould ike it if I found it and cookled it

Thanks Patsie, the fish costs a lot in India and Bangladesh. It costs around 15 dollars a kg.
