Manly, Yes, But I Use It, Too

What a hot day at the old miniature golf course! I loaded up with a gallon and a half of Gatorade in my cooler, and made sure there was plenty of sunscreen to go around. Apparently I play well in the heat. I shot 21 under, bogey free, and won the tournament!!
Once home it was into the tub for an Irish Spring conference. I love that soap (okay, I use the body wash). I come out smelling like someone who didn't spend four hours in the heat.
I remember when the soap was introduced in the 70s. It was marketed as a "manly" soap. Inevitably a woman would intercept the bar of soap after two guys boasted about how "manly" it was and say, "Manly, yes, but I use it, too."
I sure do. Carry it with me on tournament weekends so I can stand to be in the car with myself on the way home.
Here's that old sexist ad from the 70s:

Was it sexist? Or just trying to market to both sides of the isle? None of us who were alive then can forget "Manly, yes, but I like it too." Or however they said it. Irish Spring is actually my backup to Trader Joe's soap these days. I still like it.

It's all in good fun. I'm sure the people who make Secret deodorant aren't going to call a guy out for using it....

Yeah, I remember back then how Irish spring was for men but I used it when i was in elementary. I find the smell strong. But I've long switched to organic and natural soaps because I get allergic to strong smell and the chemical contents of commercial soaps.
