Love that Corn, but the Dog Next Door Scared Me Away -
That may well have been what our corn-eating deer was thinking. There it was, nose deep into the bucket of deer corn hanging on the back fence and, suddenly the big dog that lives next door came running at the fence, barking like crazy - like maybe the deer was eating the doggie's food instead of deer corn.
There was just enough daylight hanging around to allow some picture-making.
As you can see, the visiting deer did not quit the bucket right away. The deer just had to have some more of that good-tasting deer corn.
We learned something else from this episode.
The deer came back the next day, proving that the stomach has the stronger influence on a deer than does a barking dog.

Love the photos. I was spending a week with my sister in upstate NY last week, when she pointed out the two little pear trees she planted. She was asking me if she should fence them in and who am I...I live Canada in a small town not in NY on hundreds of wild acres... I said yes....
knowing I'm older and must be smarter... The next morning all the leaves were off her trees and we spent an hour or so in the yard putting up fences around the babies... we added whirligigs and pom poms left over from her children when they were teens...The deer will not try to eat them again...I just know it.

@PainsOnSlate - Well now. I may have some bad news for you about those tiny trees. With the pom-poms and all the rest, those deer will simply consider them to be some sort of holiday (festival) treat. A spraying of the trees with some cougar pee will do the job you want done. If cougar pee is unavailable, try some spraying with a cayenne pepper mix. Deer don't like peppery stuff - or onions, garlic, jalapeno, and the like. -Gus-

@PainsOnSlate - Howdy "Paint" - If the cayenne pepper stuff does not faze the deer, you can always use it a little bit at a time on your barbecue beef or even on the breakfast eggs.

@Ceerios Wouldn't like the potted plant chowdown--they can be greedy--but so cute!

@divalounger - The collage was produced using a computer program, named "Photoscape." It is free and can be downloaded from website, "Sourceforge.Net. The rascal deer jumped the fence that night and at the tops off of some of my bride's potted plants. Greedy things... -Gus-

@toniganzon - After a polite wait, the deer went back into the deer corn bucket for seconds, thirds, or however more it was. Scared or not, deer love to eat deer corn. -Gus-

@prashu228 - Yes. Deer surely do like to eat grass, tree leaves, tuti-fruiti ice cream, and deer corn. -Gus-

Aww, the poor dear. Glad to hear she came back, though.
