Favorite "#" Songs #2 - "#1 Crush"

There is light at the end of the tunnel. We are at #2 in my Favorite "#" Songs series, which is simply songs with a number in the title (an actual number, not spelled out.) @FourWalls is also doing a numbers countdown, so be sure to check hers out as well, because she is coming up with some great songs. Number two belongs to "#1 Crush" by Garbage. Best known for it's inclusion on the soundtrack for the 1996 film Romeo + Juliet, "#1 Crush" was released twice as a B-Side before Nellee Hooper remixed the song for the movie. While the sensual tune might seem romantic at first, vocalist Shirley Manson has said it's actually from the point of view of a stalker, while drummer Butch Vig has called the song "disturbing." "#1 Crush" performed fairly well, spending four weeks at #1 on Billboard's Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart (it's Garbage's only #1 appearance on any US chart.) The song received airplay on 71 radio stations monitored by Billboard. Considered an album cut, it was ineligible for that magazine's Hot 100 chart, but it did cross over to Top 40 radio, denting the Top 40 Mainstream chart at #39. In addition to Romeo + Juliet, "#1 Crush" was used as the theme song for the British TV show, Hex, as well as appearing in the "Obsessed" episode of La Femme Nikita. What can I say? Garbage has put out some great songs over the years, and "#1 Crush" is one of their best. There was no way this wasn't making the cut. (Info verified by Wikipedia)
