Culinary Epic Fails: Country Ham Spread

A couple months ago I stumbled across a cookbook from the eighties and when reading through it shared a few of the more disturbing recipes that I found within the book. Well a few weeks ago I picked up three more 1980s cookbooks and figured I would continue with the grossness, but have renamed the series so it will be easier for all of us to remember it. The cookbook I am currently pawing through is Southern Living's 1987 Annual. So I am sure to find all kinds of weird things for us to ponder why they are even a thing. Today's gem is labeled as "Country Ham Spread" and you only need four things to make it. Now I don't know about you, but I like ham pretty well. There are plenty of different things you can make with it or include it in. However this is one thing that I will for sure not be doing with any of my ham in the future, country or not. The four things you would need for this devine creation of the eighties is mayo ( a whole cup of it), chopped and cooked country ham, pickle relish and brandy. That's right, you need to mix mayo and brandy. Please tell me that I'm not the only one who thinks its revolting to mix a liqour and mayo. Like who does that? EWWWW! It says you can serve it with crackers or toast points. But no thank you. I'll pass on this one. What about you? Would you try this concoction?

Kind of my thoughts on the matter. There are all kinds of perfectly horrible concoctions in this cookbook, this is just the beginning I am sure.

@thislittlepennyearns you think that's bad, try some of the ones from the 50s through the 70s, you will never look at jello or mayo or liverwurst the same way again

I would probably try it just to say I did (and to be able to write about what it tastes like.) Although I agree it sounds nasty. Mayo and brandy?? Blech!
