The cat is actually scaring me now as I let her out to play and wander at 7 am this morning. She has usually never gone far from the garden and returns every few hours to grab food or water. Today she vanished until a fleeting visit at nearly 5pm and went off again. Her owner rarely lets her stray far so the fear that she might disappear, get hurt or just not come back is now very much playing on my mind. What on Earth would I tell my friends? I went out to see if I could see where she might go, but there is a park, a private sports field (she could get in though I couldn't) and a canal - finding her would be a real needle in a haystack search. I watched TV to take my mind off her vanishing act but her 5pm check-in was quite a relief. Arthur Chappell

My daughters beautiful long haired cat got out of the house and disappeared for 3 days. He came back....with a hair trim etc. Apparently someone else had him and intended to keep him but he managed to get away. We are super careful now that he's not getting out of the house.

They definitely can be hard to find. We had one get out last summer. Took me four days to get him back in.

@teamfreak16 dogs obviously need more attention with walks and such - you have to walk dogs on leads and clean up their mess here - cats still have freedom to roam at will

Cats will try to go off on their own whether or girl. Pet owner worried about their cat getting away huh? Not much television watched but will pass by from time to time to hear what's on television. Blessings.

Finding something to watch on TV just might be the best thing you can do. Trust me... it will take your mind off your problems!

I have a feeling that cat is testing you and your nerves. Perhaps once she sees you are on the spot and not going anywhere she just might begin to trust you. I hope so.

@RasmaSandra she occasionally shows signs of softening to me then remembers to snarl at me again

This is completely normal. Don't fret. Some days my cats are homebodies and rarely leave the comforts of home. Other days they disappear for hours, pop home to eat, and then disappear again. If she's still wary of you she's probably found a sheltered spot in the garden and is laughing at your antics of looking for her.

she returned then vanished again all night - still not back now - worried now as very hot out. Without water she could dehydrate - dreading having to tell her owners she is gone, possibly

I dont know how I'd handle that, how exactly do you prevent a cat from wandering
