Here's another one of the songs that are on my list of favorites that have the word "take" or a variation in the title. As I said yesterday, there are no surprises in these top three. Here's the next obvious song on my countdown.
#2: Take Me to the River - Talking Heads
What can I say? This song introduced me to Talking Heads in 1978. This marvelous, soulful cover of an Al Green song was the first Talking Heads venture into the Billboard top 40. This song shows that there was so, so much more to Talking Heads than just the punkish "Psycho Killer."
What's cool is their live version in Stop Making Sense is so dramatically different from the studio version that it's like they re-invented the song yet again.
What a classic.

Take Me to the River was also my intro to the Heads. It was so unique at a time when there was so much "new" sounding music.

This was my introduction to them, too. This crazy dude on the team when I played high school football HATED this song. Threatened to shoot the band with his shotgun. These days, he'd be taken seriously.
