Put On Your Listening Ears

I just watched an e[episode of Mystery Diagnosis that horrified me. It was based on a young woman in her early 20's that had been complaining of having a problem breathing, dizziness, and passing out for two years.
She had been going from doctor to doctor and they all passed it off as a virus or pneumonia. They took x-ray after x-ray and all kept saying she was exaggerating her symptoms.
At one point she felt like giving up. She had reached to point of feeling so badly that she started wishing she was dead, thinking that at least she would feel better.
She finally showed up at a new doctors office demanding to be seen. The doctor was intrigued by the fact that this girl was so insistent and agreed to see her.
After listening carefully to the girl she immediately saw a problem with the girls lungs and checked them out thoroughly.
That girl had Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Because that doctor listened to her new patient that patient is alive today.
She is still quite ill but she is surviving which she might no long be if her doctor had not put on her listening ears.
It is so important to find a doctor that listens to you. I read a post earlier by @Courtlynn about this type of thing happening - doctors not listening to their patients.

I have a doctor like that. Though he impressed me the last time I saw him, not too long ago and actually listened to me. He agreed to allow me to go off a medication I was taking because it didn't seem to be necessary any longer. He also said to keep it handy, just in case. The medication was dual purpose - blood pressure and water pill for all the swelling I have with my legs and feet. As soon as I stopped taking it, I swelled up bad. Needless to say, I'm back on the medication.

i'm glad she finally found someone who'd listen 'n bother to check further. doc's 're real good these days 'bout not listenin'. they're more'n happy to write a script fer schtuff not needed 'n turn a blind eye. then, they'll accuse ya 'f cryin' wolf fer 'ttention. i went through that fer years (didn't know the latter 'til i'd gotten my records from all the doc's seen) 'n they nearly killed me.

@HazySue i've found most doc's 'd prefer to spend more time with their patients. sadly, their office staff's other ideas 'n basically see dollar signs. here, they charge (a general practitioner) $145 fer 15 minutes. multiply that by 25-30 patients a day 'n watch 'em grin. ne'er mind they're doin' a huge disservice to their patients.

@crazyhorseladycx That is a lot of money coming through the office in a days time. Too bad they don't seem to care about the person more.

Everything is good that ends well. And it's true, doctors now not always listen to people complains. And if they listen, it may save some lives.

Oh my goodness! So sad. And Yess! I've had the problem at thw hospital too, not just recently at my drs.
Was getting real bad stomach pains at least one day a week for months, and the hospital kept saying nothing was wrong. Thankfully the pains went away on their own but the drs were zero help. Said nothing was going on.
