Getting rid of ants without hurting the kitty

Wow, I just realized I haven't been on mylot for awhile. In fact, I didn't even intend to come here tonight, but happened to click on it on my home page that comes up when I start my browser. But it is good to be back! I've been busy trying to straighten out a lot of things around the house. Among the many other, larger issues, I now need to find a way to get rid of ants, without poisoning my kitty. I have done some research, but am curious if others here have anything they have used that works. Luckily, so far they are on kitchen counters where the cat does not go (she is older and rarely jumps higher than the coffee table), but they are getting closer to her bowl.

I am using Terro ant bait traps, they appear to work good and Scar can't get to the contents in them.

Thanks, I will have to look into that. I used to use Raid baits before I had a cat, but I don't want to take a chance with something that poisonous. I don't remember ever seeing Terro at the store, but I probably just never looked any further than Raid before.

I caught my sister's dog one time licking the ant trap. He got sick later so I know he got to some of the bait. A cat's tongue is even smaller so I definitely do not recommend commercial baited traps. Some cats and dogs will eat anything!

@dragon54u Terro is a liquid bait trap that the ants have to crawl inside to get to. All the same, a person should never put baits down where animals are.
