The Ouija Files: Debunking ZOZO

Many, many years ago I made the mistake of playing with a ouija board with a few friends. If that wasn't bad enough, someone had the bright idea to paint a pentagram on the floor. As usual everyone in attendance swore that they weren't moving the planchette or doing anything to manipulate the candles. Long story short, it took months to clear my house of whatever was there but eventually I had to move. Even though the disappearance of items stopped as well as the knocking on walls and windows – you could still hear voices when you would trying to go to sleep. At the time I had a waterbed and the voices were coming from under the bed – but that was impossible because the bottom was totally enclosed. When I went to the basement it was empty except for a washer and dryer that were never hooked up. The only explanation we could come up with was something was in the basement and it had no plan of leaving any time soon.
Over the years I have purchased collectible talking spirit boards but they all remained sealed and untouched. When I found some really nice cherry and ash pieces I took a stab at making my own board. Eventually I ended up borrowing the alphabet die cut pieces from a friend. The results were better than I expected but it's a lbor of love to do everything by hand.
With that all being said, “The Legend of ZOZO” ws something I felt compelled to try and track down the origins. Everyone seems to be an expert on ZOZO but no one could tell me when he was first spotted or created. ZOZO, according to ouija experts is a malevolent spirit looking to trick people into his domain. Once there, you are nothing more than a slave. If ZOZO were true I am sure it would have said its true name.
I can't chastise people for using the ouija because I did it. What I can say is read book or two about how to act if you encounter one and most important – knowing how to properly end a conversation. Several people have claimed that ZOZO never just 'appears' – a friendly or childlike spirit usually runs the board for a while. I guess you could call ZOZO a paranormal bully; even if he only exists in the mind of the user, he usually comes with an attitude. Is he 'real'? I doubt it. If he has even a tenth of the power that people claim he has then I am sure he'd have much better things to do with his time than to drop in on tweens and teen dead set on misguided adventure.
But how can I say that and mean it when I know what happened to myself and others when we indulged? This was long before cell phones, lipstick cameras and webcams so all you had to go on was what others saw. ZOZO has been known to lead people on a wild goose chase or to steal a small item to prove they are serious. Whatever the case, whatever I found about him was poorly written, cribbed from other sites and had some reference to the ZOZO logo from Led Zeppelin.
If you go hunting for ZOZO don't claim ignorance if you find him and he slowly dismantles your life piece by piece. The reality is simple; if you believe in it and the spirit realm then your chances of experiencing something paranormal increases greatly. You are sitting there waiting and hoping for something to happen so any knock, shuffle, creak or odd noise is going to be interpenetrated as 'other worldly'.

I've never gotten a Ouija board to work. Probably wasn't in the right places. No spirits.

I had a OUIJA board when I was a kid, but we conjured nothing malevolent. It was just a "You're moving it" No "You're moving it" thing with my sis.
