I know what you mean. I am 55 years of age and I write fan fictions of Wordgirl with her fictional group The Ladies Of Portobelo and I usually get remarks like "Wordgirl is a kids cartoon." and I tell them "At least she is straight as a Green Arrow unlike Supergirl's sister who is in love with a female cop."
