"Why not," I thought to myself. Since I just finished a series of songs with numbers in the title (not spelled out,) why not keep the theme going with the numbers spelled out? Thus, we begin with #10 in my Favorite Number Songs countdown: "Two Sevens Clash" by Culture. Pure roots reggae, "Two Sevens Clash" is the title track from Culture's 1977 debut album. Classic reggae, the tune has an interesting story. The song is based upon activist Marcus Garvey's prediction that chaos would ensue on July 7th, 1977, when the sevens "clashed." Culture vocalist Joseph Hill envisioned that date as he wrote the track while riding a bus. His lyrics hit home with a large number of Jamaican's, many of whom either closed their businesses, or simply dared not venture out on that day in order to avoid the expected chaos. I did get to see Culture perform this live back in the 1990's. I have mixed feelings about it. On one hand, it wasn't a very good show. Joseph Hill was so baked that he fell into the curtain as he walked onstage. On the other hand, they did a great job when they did this. Call it a wash. As I said, it's a reggae classic. R.I.P., Joseph. Thanks for the groovy reggae music. (Info verified by Wikipedia)

He was more than one, that's for sure. One of the guys was so high he couldn't even sing. Just kind of stood there grooving.

Wasn't there a lot of unrest in Jamaica during that period? That was about the time someone tried to kill Bob Marley. Anyway, that is reggae.

I think you are right. Especially, politically, from what I've read.
