Favorite Number Songs #7 - "Two Divided by Zero"

We get into a bit of 80's synthpop with #7 in my Favorite Number Songs (the number in the title being spelled out:) "Two Divided by Zero" by Pet Shop Boys. @FourWalls is also doing the same countdown, so be sure to check hers out as well. We have matched one song, but not today. Anyway...
From their 1986 debut album, Please, "Two Divided by Zero" was the leadoff track from that popular record (over three million copies sold thus far.) It was not released as a single, therefore it saw no chart action.
(Interesting Fun Fact: the "two divided by zero" sample in the song is taken from a talking calculator that vocalist Neil Tennant purchased for his father.)
Ostensibly, the song is about two people who are running away from their lives, headed for New York. According to Tennant, one of them might or might not be pregnant, and there is no way the couple makes it to New York together.
Please was a great synth pop album. "Two Divided by Zero" set the tone ("West End Girls" sounds even better following the tune.)
As always, enjoy!

Division by zero is meaningless! This song, however, is not. I remember this song from the 80s.

It's my second favorite from the album, after "West End Girls."

Love the old Pet Shop Boys.

Oh, they are still going strong. My impression is that they are big with the gay disco crowd. Which makes sense. Neil Tennant is gay, and gay bars play awesome music.

I'm a PSB fan. I don't have all their albums, but I do have a multi-CD collection of their stuff and a CD of remixes of theirs ("Absolutely Fabulous", etc). My faves by them are "It's a Sin" and "What Have I Done to Deserve This?" I know "West End Girls" was a gigantic hit, but it's a bit boring for me, tbh.

Unless you owned the album, odds are you wouldn't have heard it.
