Do you work beyond your official time?

I used to do it before so as to make myself productive at work. Unfortunately, it just made me depressed at the end because staying for the whole day at my workplace means that I will not be having enough time to spend for my family. Some of the people in my workplace spend almost all their day on their work. Two of them are women and are described as workaholic. They are also separated already to their husbands and would not like to marry anymore. One of them told us that her husband just gives her headache. I am wondering what if she is not workaholic, will their separation not happen? In my life I have realized that balance is always important. Too much of anything is not good. What is your opinion?

Everything should be in moderation. I also believe in work-life balance. I do not spend more time at work than necessary. I just make sure that all my daily deliverables are done and that's it. Outside my work, I have other roles to play. I am also a daughter, sister, student, girlfriend, friend, and volunteer. It helps us learn more and keeps us from getting burnt out.

@Raine38 Wow! We do have the same roles. I wonder if I do volunteering work and yes, I have been doing it too. If I can, I spend extra time helping my students with their studies.

Of course. I know someone who is so workaholic that it is beginning to affect her behavior. I mean she begins to treat anyone like her subordinates much to the ire of her friends. I used to do a lot of overtimes, but out of pressure from my boss.

@Mamerto32 That is understandable. If our school head will ask me to stay for longer time at school, then I will but if not, then I go home to do other things. I want to have a life outside work and we all know that all works and no play can also make a person dull.

@annierose me too. And I'm the godfather if my boss' daughter. Me and my boss are quite in good terms. Maybe that is the reason why I'm doing overtimes :)

As much as it may be important to get the work done, I also think that balance is important as well. It's important to spend time with friends and family too, and have time to relax.

Perhaps she is burying herself at work after the separation. Is it? I think it depends on how we balance our lives.

@Shavkat I am not really sure because I haven't known her for a long time.

@Shavkat I guess you are right. I remember the kids. Whenever they know someone is in relationship, some will yell "There is no forever." Haha!

@annierose I think there are so many reasons why they choose to be separated.

I'm hourly not salaried, so I get paid only for when I work. Makes things better.

i usually leave the workplace overtime, when i was the HN of a hospital here. now, i am trying to leave the ward, all works finished, so my students will be 'punctual' in doing their responsibilities.

@hereandthere Our salary is per day and we do not have overtime pay. It is up to us if we want to leave on time or stay much longer.
