I was just randomly searching and came across my Heinzism being mention in a topic on this thread.. Many ask about religions in schools and viewpoints what should be aloud and not aloud..? What is appropriate for a school and not? How far does the Separation of Church and state go? First off I firmly believe that discussion of all religions should be allowed in school, But I also believe it is fine to say you disagree or do not believe. I do not see it as fine to allow trashing of any religions... I do believe it is alright to allow to discuss the cultural and social pros and cons, and opposing view points of such. But, I belief it should also be Fair use and Fair point.. If you want to discuss Christianity then you must Cover others as well. Some criticism should be allowed but this is a school.. Schools are suppose to teach things in the example of respect and tolerance, Show how on can belief differently. be okay, and also have healthy criticism with a level of respect that does not turn it into a trash fest. Many ask me well, Where should religion in school curriculum come in. The Way I see it is it should come in in Cultural History, All religions are part of cultural history, and can be generally taught in respective history to the peoples without going to the extreme of trying to pressure other students into conversion or reversion. Trying to convert people is not a school's jobs unless they go to a specific school to study deeper into a church, Synagogue, Mosque, Pagan Circle etc.....So many I can not list it all.. Many are what about cults? Should we allow teaching about them? As the next person says.. All religions are cults... My Answer is Yes, The topic of cults and brainwashing should be covered.. For one specific reason. So people are knowledgeable enough to not get pulled into a harmful, negative, or dangerous cult... I believe General religion 101 should be covered in World History, and in Specific Culture Histories.. and I believe it should be optional for schools to bring in outside sources to teach specific ELECTIVE courses the students or parents can optionally decide on specific religions. But even so not all Catholics will believe as the Church says, Same with All Muslims may not believe in all a Mullah Says, or members of a congregation all of what the Minister says, but many will belief in the basic tennants of their faith.. and some all the political points a church or other religious institution may or may not have... It is very important if religion is allowed in school at all. That teachers do not unwantedly single out students or allow other students to single out other students in certain discussions, and allow the students who say, "No, I disagree" This teaching is wrong in this religion, to allow them to bring in the source of their information. As Many Religions are such a diverse umbrella branch of so many... Sometimes mainstream schools and teachers think they are teaching a general form then find out they are teaching a form from one small group that may no longer exist... So in Summary I feel religion all and any religions should be allowed to be taught in general form in proper context to cultural history of certain people, but i also feel the school and teacher should do their ultimate best to make sure what is being taught is current up to date accurate history in the curriculum and make sure the sources of information are provided as well. I feel as long as a school manages right and does put pressure of conversion or allow harassment at all of students during this, and also allows Students to opt out on participating with certain religious assignments as some peoples faiths forbid them to study or look at other faiths at all.. They should be allowed to opt out and do another assignment in place of it.. But also any time religion is in a teaching it is always important to let the parents to know what is going on and even offer the option of letting the parents to sit in on the lesson or send up a full recorded transcript of the lesson so there is not question of what is said... I think if it was done in this manner. This would be okay.. Religion history is fine.. general beliefs is fine. But taking steps to post as trying to convert others is where crossing the lines of church and state in a public school is not as fine. - DNatureofDTrain

It can be as complicated or simple as people want it to be. The complicated part is if allowed applying the teachings properly. :D .
