It's time to mop up this water, or at least this series of discussions looking at my favorite songs that have the word "water" in the title. Here's the song at the top of the list, and it's probably no surprise. #1: Bridge Over Troubled Water - Simon & Garfunkel And why not? Here you have the perfect marriage: Paul Simon's lovely lyrics that have religious overtones, and one of the greatest vocal deliveries in the history of popular music from Art Garfunkel. It does not get any better than this. There are some songs in this world that simply should not be covered. Friends of mine recorded this song, but even with their exquisite close harmonies that recall the Louvins or the Blue Sky Boys even their version paled in comparison. For someone who didn't have a hand in writing this, it's Art Garfunkel's song all the way. If you doubt that listen to Paul Simon sing it by himself....no, on second thought, don't. Just enjoy the magic of Garfunkel's voice. Thanks for reading. Art Garfunkel has such a beautiful voice. Why cover this, even as a tribute. You can't top it.

Yes, this is one of those songs where someone should say, "I love 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' so much I'm not going to sing it, but tell you to go listen to the original."

@FourWalls - The closest I've seen is a Belgian industrial band called The Overlords not including the lyrics to "Holiday in Cambodia" on their lyric sheet. Instead, they just put "if you don't know the lyrics by now, go listen to the original."

S&G own this song. I don't even think I have ever heard a cover.

Do yourself a big favor: do NOT go looking for them. As much as I love Buck Owens I'll tell the world his version was horrid and cringing to listen to...and that was even BEFORE I had heard S&G's original.

@FourWalls I can't even begin to imagine the Buckaroo performing this song. I see the Hee Haw honeys behind him.
