Dancing Shadows of the Past

I am sometimes touch by nostalgia and melancholy when the muse of poetry bridge the past with the present. This poem comprises 1/3 poetic inspiration, 1/3 contemplation of life and 1/3 intoxication (33% proof) Dancing Shadows of the Past I wait in mute silence as a flock of birds sweep past the auburn sky bid the setting sun adieu till next it dawns upon the day A whiff of jasmine the gentle breeze of a lover's perfume meander through my broken soul Around the corner bend she comes into view memories are awaken rekindle cravings of the heart yet with each step closer pain and anger rips open wounds not forgotten nor forgiven A hesitant touch brush against her ash grief face the willow tree sigh in sadness where once we swore beneath it of a love unwavering and undying Alas, a lover's vow made upon a whim like the frivolous moon that wax and wane is broken, and soon discarded Save your tears, it brings me no solace nor the scented bouquet it's sweet sorrow upon the gathering moss beneath where I lay, they too shall wilt fading into the shadows of a decaying past ...as I have Photo image: Pixabay

I'm not a massive fan of poetry in general but that is as good as anything I've read.

@josie_ In my case poetry is probably best written under the influence of a few bottles of ice cold San Miguel

@WorDazza _Thank you. Writing poetry serves as a stress reliever for me. It's equivalent to a couple of ice cold bottles of San Miguel.

@Srbageldog _ Someday I'm going to self-analyse why I prefer to write sad melancholy poems despite being of a happy nature. Thank you for reading.

Are you really a poet. This is not just a poem by an in-love human being but by a poet. Edgar Allan Poe wrote his masterpieces when he's drunk. Maybe there's relativity between that 33 percent proof and the poet.

@ilocosboy _Thank you. I'm glad you like the poem. Edgar Allan Poe is among those I like to read. Which probably explains the dark brooding mood of my poems. As for the 33% proof, it is needed to bribe the muse of poetry to share her insights.

It is wonderful the ability to forget some painful memories which we don't want to remember. I begin to understand why aging brings with it, lots of blanks in our memory.
