What goes well with chicken and dumplings

I am going to make chicken and dumplings for dinner tonight,but I am not sure of what sides to go with it. I have thought about it and only came up so far with one green vegetable and of course being that I am from the south you have to have cornbread,biscuits, or something. All suggestions are welcome

I usually have a green veggie like beans, fresh sliced tomatoes when available, fried corn bread and of course, cold sweet tea. You can tell I'm in the south too!

My mom always put mixed vegetables in the chicken and broth with the dumplings on top, it was kind of a stew. If you have just chicken and the dumplings green beans would be good. We also liked lima beans, yummy! My dad's family is from Kentucky and always served corn on the cob with it but I think that's too many carbs, too fattening for my tastes now. Do you make your dumplings by dropping the batter in the hot broth or some other way? I know some people bake them, like biscuits, but that's just not the same to me. Happy cooking!
