Dear friends, It has been long time now I have visited a post office. There is tremendous changes in our life.A Post office become an unnecessary part in our life is one among them. We are depending only on e-mail, phone calls etc for communication and writing a letter through post almost forgotten by all. Still I remember the days post man visited our house in his bicycle and listening the bell of his bicycle, anxiously reaching him to know whose letter comes. That time my elder sister was in abroad so mostly we received airmails from her. I think those days were golden and no emails can give the happiness like the same way we used to get in the past by post. Now the purpose of visit of post office today is a part of my younger son’s school project. He needed stamps, envelopes and postcard for pasting his project. Have you received letters through post still?

I visit post office when I need to post items I had sold on eBay. I see people go there for other purposes too, like processing passport applications, paying bills, and even purchasing travelers checks...

Not personal letters, but I still do. Visiting the post office is still very common here because they provide other services too - road tax renewal, bill payment, etc.

Yes, post office is providing more services these days. One of my friend visited the nearby post office for getting an atm card but those officials discouraged her to visit the main branch and also said you will face more procedures.

Postcards are rarely sold at Post Offices these days because email, text messaging and social media have decimated the demand for them. In fact, postcards can be very difficult to find in some towns and cities nowadays.

Till year 2003, I used to send and receive postal letter. Postal letters are things to remember. It's a long time and hardly anyone sends or receives those handwritten letters.

You remember the year, I can't remember when I stopped writing letters. Telephone calls replaced letter writing.

From a few people yes and i can understand that they soon might not be able to afford to either as its going up and up the price of postage. I consider it a gift to get a letter or Card through the post. Our Postman was always on foot in England so you had to wait for him a while. Last one I saw in England wore running shoes every day. Good luck to your youngest to post his project whatever it is.

That time the postman comes on bycycle as he wanted to cover many places. Since it is a village it will take much for him to cover all the places. That time the post office was the only place for communication, his work loads was also high. Now ladies are distributing the letters if any and they are coming on scooty.

Most of what I get in the mail now are bills (although not many, I have "paperless billing") and what we call "junk mail." I haven't sent a letter or received on other than e-mail in ages. I used to work at the post office, so it is sort of nice to know my bills aren't being subjected to the torture of those machines and uncaring workers. But I do have a post office box, so I go to the post office 2-3 times weekly, just to pick my mail up.

Here also the government is doing much to make 'paperless' and 'cashless'. Bill are delivering through post office but writing a letter for sending through post office is rarely happens.

I totally agree with your words, an email can never ever replace a physical letter. I don't receive letters anymore, only the official ones.

@shaynas yes, I agree, they don't bring any pleasure like the personal letters can bring. It was warm feeling to get the letters in olden days.
