In this particular music series, Favorite "Talk" Songs, I am simply counting down songs with "talk" (or a variation) in the title. We are at #6: "Mother's Talk" by Tears for Fears.
"Mother's Talk" was the first single from Tears for Fears' 1985 album, Songs from the Big Chair. Vocalist/co-writer Roland Orzabal claims the tune represents two ideas, one about the way mother's talk to their kids about making faces, and the other taken from the anti-nuclear comic book When the Wind Blows. The song is a bit more aggressive than what Tears for Fears had done on their first album (but the strings you hear at the beginning were sampled from a Barry Manilow record!)
The tune performed decently, reaching #14 in the UK, and a 1986 US remix reached #27 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Three different videos for the song were filmed. I've attached the second one, which was released in Europe.
Enjoy!

I know. They are apparently still together, but they need to get to work. They haven't released a new album in 13 years.

Apparently, the band rejected the first one. The American video showed a family moving into a fallout shelter.

The opening of this song almost sounds like a 70's cop show theme song, don't you think? It's good. Tears for Fears should be better known for more than "Everybody Wants to Rule the World"....but I say that a lot about bands, don't I....

Oh, you are absolutely right. "Mad World," "Pale Shelter," "The Start of the Breakdown." All better than that song.

TFF! You are doing a roll call of 80s Hall of Famers!

They would be in just based on their first two albums alone.

@teamfreak16 TFF was not as huge as say Duran Duran or Depeche but big time all through the decade.

@JohnRoberts - They didn't have the output of those bands, but what they did release was really good.
