Day 305 Proverbs 28:25 Proverbs 28:25 He that is of a proud heart stirs up strife: but he that puts his trust in the LORD shall be made fat. 26 He that trusts in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walks wisely, he shall be delivered. Trust is one of those areas of our lives that doesn’t come easily. For many people, there isn’t any trust because people have let them down so many times, it is impossible to do so. Yet, these same people want to trust someone. They also know the only person they can rely on is themselves. Solomon talked about two kinds of trust – trust in God and trust in self. One was wise and the other foolish. How does one start trusting God when everyone else in their lives have let them down? I can tell you from personal experience, that isn’t easy. Even with my background, being raised in a family that went to church every week, went to parochial school through eighth grade, and knew the Bible, somewhat, not as well as I do today by a long shot, but I knew God loved me. The Bible told me so. Did I trust it? Did I believe it? Knowing something in your head, and knowing it in your heart are two different matters completely. Thirty-seven years ago, I took a leap of faith. I accepted Jesus as my personal Savior and Lord. When I did, I found I also needed to trust him with every area of my life. How did I do that, when I was a person who was ridiculed unmercifully, made the butt of every joke, laughed at because my clothes were outdated, called stupid because I wasn’t as smart in school as my siblings. I became a loner. I couldn’t trust anyone. So how could I suddenly trust God with my life. It wasn’t easy. I still struggle with trust. Yet, I’ve come a long way. As he grows me in areas of my life that I didn’t trust before, I gain one more area of trust. Today, I do trust God with my life. I certainly don’t trust anyone else with it. The scripture that has been my mainstay when it comes to trusting God is Proverbs 3:5-6. At first, I only memorized it and thought it was a good verse, but how was I going to do that. After 37 years, I know how I did it – one day at a time. Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. (KJV) Solomon said that those who trust themselves were fools. Yes, they are. Why? Because you don’t have all the answers. No matter how hard you might try, you will never have all the answers. But God does. When you commit your life to him, when you determine to trust God with your whole life, not just part of it, when you come to the place where you admit you don’t know all the answers, then you have made another leap forward in trusting God. Let’s pray: Father, help me trust you in every area of my life. Let me know that you are always there to lead and guide. I don’t need to do anything by myself. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
