At least I think that I do. Our cantaloupe or musk melon as dad used to call it, is thriving and has already sent out runners. At the moment, I think that we will have four melons from at least one of the plants. We have three hills but they are a little further behind. Anyway, back to the cans. Dad used to always sit the cantaloupes on the cans as they grew. Never thought to ask him why, but I have one can so far and I just pulled out a tin of peaches that would bring our total up to two. It looks as if we will be having peaches for dessert for the remainder of the week... I'm thinking peach shortcake... not sure what other ways I can use them up. Have you ever heard of Dad's gardening method and what other ways would you use up a can of peaches??

You could make peach crumble.
Well maybe you would not like it.
Perhaps peaches and Ice Cream?
More suited to this weather.
See if you can get enough cans for what you want.

@marlina
If you like it that is or Peach turnover much the same as Peach crumble and you can add some Ice Cream to that too.

I haven't but I may have seen it. Perhaps he did it to keep them from getting too wet on the ground?? just guessing here.

I thought that for a while, but he always laid straw on the ground ... so I don't know for sure.

"For vines running on the ground, keep fruit from direct contact with soil to prevent rot and protect fruit from pests. Place ripening fruit on mulch, upturned coffee cans, or flower pots. If large critters such as groundhogs discover your melons, protect ripening fruits by covering them with plastic milk crates or similar boxes weighted down with a few bricks".

Alright... I'm ready. Just have to find some milk crates now. I could probably get something like it at the dollar store... and just weigh them down!

I don't garden, no green thumb whatsoever, so not sure what the tins would be needed for, but I love cantaloupe especially on a summer day @Hate2Iron . A peach shortcake sounds yummy and you could make a peach cobbler maybe? :)

Peach cobbler would be good. No, I've never heard of that method of growing musk melons.
