In Malaysia, all primary school pupils had to comply and sit for the examinations in every 2 - 3 months. Which means, after sitting for March exam, the pupils had to sit for the next exam in May and then August and lastly October. In the past, there were months trial exam which the results are not recorded into the Report Card. However now, every results are recorded and calculated in "Purata" - that means Average. Next month August is the exam period. So right now, I am preparing some worksheets for my son to practice on. I usually give him one month exam preparation because he is the last minute guy, he loves to procrastinate but I hated that! So, when is your / your child's exam?

It's exam for parents too..some children leave the preparation to last minute , that's bad.

My younger one has his exams now and will be over tomorrow. His exam goes on continuously. Earlier they had exam after one month studies, now they are conducting 2 months.

I hope your son does well. I am just glad not to even have to think about my kids exam results. They are way past all that and adults now. It sounds quite a fair system in Malaysia?

@peachpurple I think that is better as a lot of kids think they will not bother until the final exam so they do not realise their true potential to themselves as it were. At least, I would not study for a mock exam and could easily fail that and then mug up and pass the real thing.

The exam syllabus and format keep changing every few years. In the past there were monthly trial exam which are not important. Now, every exam is countable

I have seen my sister-in-law get more tensed when her son's exams come up. Exams are kind of torture for both parents and kids these days with all the monthly tests going on.

yes it is true, my hubby said that I am studying for my son instead because I taught him what I know, he could not catch what the teachers are teaching . Very tense indeed, this month I have to prepare the exam papers and push him to do them

Not married yet, but do have a loving BF. And yes, the examinations these days are more of a worry than a necessity. I have seen very young boys and girls missing their precious times of their teenhood for the sake of examinations. As I have also heard, the purpose of an exam should never to test or compare, but to explore and understand. I hope the one sitting at the top of this kind of education system understand this and employ it to their routines. What do you say?

I feel exams are necessary, they make you responsible and serious about your studies. There is no use studying and not testing how much you recall and retain. I am not saying everyone should run in the race of topping the exam, but there must be regular examinations at school/college.

@shaynas I never said that exams were useless. I just said that it's taking away childhood, which is not good. We are humans not machines. And we have to explore not compete. How can one compete if their interests differ? How can one sprinter compete with a marathon runner? It's all become competition. Learning and exploring have been overlooked and everything has become mechanical...just saying. :)

@shikharava I agree about different interests but basic education is important. ANd they just compete with the children of their age, and with the grading system , there is no more race of being the class topper. I feel time has changed for kids. In our days, it was more pressure than now. Now they have grading system plus so many extra curricular things to recognize their interests. In our times, it was only studies which was considered important. What i meant to say is when we are leaning(be it anything), there must be a test to know how much we have progressed.
