We have reached the midway point in my celebration of electronic music. #5 in my Favorite Electronic Songs series belongs to "Flowers Become Screens" by Delerium.
Delerium is a Canadian electronic act consisting of Bill Leeb and Rhys Fulber (I've met them. Nice guys,) who had previously worked together in the industrial group Frontline Assembly. And while that band could come off as harsh and abrasive, with Delirium, the duo create lush electronic soundbeds, with various females doing vocals.
Fellow Canadian Kristy Thirsk handles a lot of Delerium's vocal work, and she is the singer on "Flowers Become Screens." Blessed with an angelic voice, Thirsk can also whisper and moan with the best of them.
Interestingly, the B-Side of the single was another Kristy Thirsk song, "Incantation" (which is quite good in it's own right.) In some places, "Incantation" was released as the A-Side, with "Flowers Become Screens" as the B-Side. Neither single charted anywhere.
If you've heard Delerium's hit, "Silence" (Sarah McLachlan on vocals,) I urge you to check out "Flowers Become Screens." It's a beautiful song. I've linked the official video below.
