Bang your head! We are celebrating loud guitars with my Favorite 80's Metal Songs series. We are at #5 in the countdown, with a band making their first appearance in one of my music countdowns: "Metal Health" by Quiet Riot. "Metal Health" is Quiet Riot's celebration of heavy metal culture. Featuring plenty of loudness and the late Kevin DuBrow's fun, over the top vocals, "Metal Health" made not only a splash within the metal community, but did alright in the mainstream, reaching #31 on the Billboard Hot 100 (where it was titled "Metal Health (Bang Your Head.)" It's a hard rocking metal tune that was the band's second Top 40 hit. I saw Quiet Riot open for the Scorpions in 1983, as both bands stopped for a warmup show in Pueblo, Colorado on their way to the US Festival. It was a great concert, and cost only ten bucks. (Fun Fact: Whenever Quiet Riot came through Denver, the Colorado Avalanche would hire them to play between periods. Fun stuff.) "Metal Health," like yesterday's AC/DC pick, is a true heavy metal anthem. I've linked to the official video, which was filmed at both the Disney Modular Theater and the California Institute of the Arts. Enjoy! (Info verified by Wikipedia)

And their breakthrough hit, "Come on Feel the Noize," was originally a Slade song!
