The 1980's were a great decade for heavy metal fans. Because of hair metal, there was an abundance of the stuff, and it got played on rock radio. A lot. To celebrate, I am counting down my Favorite 80's Metal Songs. We are at #4: "Looks that Kill" by Motley Crue.
From their 1983 album, Shout at the Devil, "Looks that Kill" was everything that made 80's metal so much fun: loud, crunchy guitars and lot's of attitude.
The song did fairly well for the most part. Although it stalled at #54 on the Billboard Hot 100, it spent ten weeks on that chart, and reached #12 on that magazine's Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.
Confession time: I am not really a Motley Crue fan, other than a couple of their singles (I almost went with "Wildside" here.") However, I do think that Shout at the Devil is a really good album, which is why I ultimately used "Looks that Kill" instead. It does rock pretty hard, after all.
Hey!

Didn't one of them date Pamela Anderson? Oh, wait, didn't everyone on this countdown date her at one point?
Oh, yes, and the obligatory metal band drum stick twirling in the video, can't forget that.

Metal was never alternative new wave friendly and KROQ once launched a mock Screw the Crue campaign.

That's funny. KROQ rules. Wish we had something like them here.

Oh yeah, that's a great tune. I love some of "crue" -- but others of it doesn't grab me. At one point in time I was talking about setting up and all girl tribute cover band. Of course that would make me Nikki Sixx... fine by me. :-)
