I was looking at cartoons and found this on a newspaper. It is interesting, many of us don't know about scooter or motorcycle. I think we should know.... In the 15th century, pillion meant a light saddle, especially one used by women. The first pillion riders strode on horses and that too all by oneself. Pillion is one of the earliest words to have found its use in English from Gaelic. The root word is Latin 'pellis' meaning skin, which, with time, took its Scottish Gaelic form 'pillean' and Irish form 'pillin' - both meaning 'small cushion'. The present use - 'to ride in the hind seat of a scooter or motorcycle ' is found from the late 19th century...... Is this useful for us now? Comment >

It is particularly useful for me as Mom born in Ireland and the Gaelic is well known there..I did not know this word and it is very interesting its root comes from Latin. A small pillow to sit on on the scooters, thanks for this information.
