Until they reach 14, the mobile phones are not necessary for the school going children.

no its obviously not necessary.... if they are in a college then it may be use for them for any urgent communication.. what for a school going boy or girl should have... it may fault them...

i dont have a problem with it but my kids wont get one until they can get a job and paid for it themselves..haha

In my case, a mobile phone is a way in which I could contact my children wherever they are. On the other hand, my kids also feel secure that we, their parents are just a phonecall away.
