All the Fun I Could Have Had!

I wrote a Letter to the Editor of our local paper on the Fourth of July complaining about the amount of illegal fireworks in our area and how the police failed to follow through on cracking down on them even when people were calling and reporting them as the city asked. Well, this evening I got a call from someone from the paper, saying my letter had been approved and will be printed probably in the next few days (which kind of seems pointless to me now since the Fourth is long past, but eh...whatever.) But first he had me verify that I had actually written it by paraphrasing what it was about! I have written many Letters to the Editor over the years, and I have never had to do that before. It makes me wonder if they have a problem with people writing letters pretending to be someone else and providing false contact information. But who the hell would commit "identity theft" to write Letters to the Editor for a small, local paper that hardly anybody reads anymore? I am now sitting over here amused by this notion, even though I know it's a highly unlikely one. Just think, all the years wasted when I could have been writing bizarre letters to our local paper and attributing them to people I don't like! Oh, all the possibilities, lost now that they make you verify you actually wrote your letter!

Yes, lots of ideas...wonder if I could pull it off if I still gave my own contact information but used somebody else's name. XD

I think its good that they are verifying and it'll surely help. And I'm happy that you have done well by sending them a letter and soon it'll be published

I never tried to write a letter or article for a newspaper. I wish I can have the will to do it in the future. Congratulations, my friend. I think there is some plagiarism that had submitted to them for a couple of times.

@Srbageldog I think it is, my friend. I hope I can also do some writings in a newspaper.

Thank you, and you could be correct about them doing that as a way to fight plagiarism.

I like where your mind went with that. I suppose one person did it and now they have to verify.

Well I'm glad you wrote them, even if they waited so long to get back to you.

Yeah, it seems weird they took so long to get back. Back in the day your letter was printed within a week of mailing it...now you submit it online and it takes longer to get printed. Doesn't make sense!

Since you have written so many letters before they must be familiar with you. This verification seems to be weird

It's been a while so maybe they've forgotten who I am. But it does seem weird.
