Apple Should be Held Responsible for Their Defective iPhone 6 Plus

Last year I purchased a brand new iPhone 6 Plus that was unlocked. That is the only way we can use the phones here in Tahiti. Six months after purchasing this phone I started to have a white bar on the screen and the screen would freeze. After playing with the phone I can get the screen to move again. However, this is annoying and I miss a lot of important calls because of this defect. Not sure I want another iPhone again. I loved my old iPhone and that is the reason I purchased a new one last year. Researching online I found that the iPhone 6 Plus has a defective chip on the motherboard. The chip for the screen was glued into place instead of being soldiered. Many people have tried to make Apple fix their defect in the iPhone 6 Plus. However, Apple says it is not their problem. Apple will issue you a new phone as long as your phone is still under warranty. However, this does not resolve the issue with the phone. A few months after receiving your new phone the same defect happens again. People are forced to see k 3rd party repair shops help in order to fix this issue. A company offers to replace the screen chip on the motherboard and solider a new chip in its place. The service is 199.00 US dollars. Most people have no other choice than to repair their phone. The cost of the iPhone 6 Plus 64GB in Tahiti is way over $1500.00 USD. If I want to fix the issue with my phone I will need to ship my phone to the US, pay the service and the cost for shipping it back to me. I am looking at $400.00 USD. Why is it that other manufactures are obligated to recall defective items? They either fix the item or issue you a new one. Apple is never held accountable for their defective phones or computers. Do you think this is right?

Not so sure on this one. When the iPhone 7 Plus came out everyone jumped on them and they sold out quickly.

@dollaboy I think they are trying hard right now to keep up with Samsung. They are doing a poor job if you ask me.

I used to have an Apple iPhone 6 Plus and had problems with the rear camera, never the screen. I had the rear camera fixed, but the problem still continued. I then purchased an Apple iPhone 7 Plus and I think my photos are lacking. It's been 6 months, I am going to make an appointment to get it checked. My parents' both have an Apple iPhone 6 Plus and currently have no problems. I think if a product is recalled Apple should fix the part for free or give people a new phone.

@poehere Every phone you have is having that problem? Since it's still under warranty they have to fix your phone or, give you a new one. I have the 128 GB right now for my IPhone 7 plus. My previous iPhone 6 Plus was a 64 GB as well. Just like when cars have recalls they don't "entirely" admit it's the companies fault either.

@infatuatedbby They gave me one new phone and then said that was all they would do for me. That phone acted up and I went back. They offered to upgrade this phone for a very large sum of money. I refused.

I have a 64GB phone and within 4 months of buying the phone it started to freeze. Within a few weeks of freezing up I started to have a wite bar on the top of the screen. The white bar jumps up and down and at times it will get stuck on the screen where I have to enter my code. Then all of a sudden a ton of numbers starts popping up. After you get past this and can open the phone it will continue to bug and open up you apps. You finally have to force the phone off and turn it back on. It will work for a few calls or to read a few messages and then it starts to bug all over again. This is the worst phone I have ever owned.

In fact the defective phone came from Apple and it is their duty to replace the phone without any charge. If they can't repair the phone then they must give the customer a new one

They did give me a new one. However, the new one has the same problem as the one they took back. All iPhone 6 Plus have an issue with the motherboard and the screen touch chip. They glued it on the board and should of soldered it on.

@Nawsheen I will call it a major rip off. The phone is expensive and they should stand behind the products they make. I sure hope they didn't do this on the new 7 plus that came out a little while back.

That is not right at all. Someone should turn them over to the BBB Better business bureau.

@jstory07 This company is only in it to make money. I feel their phones are over priced and over rated. I think I will just buy myself a new Samsung. They are less money and I know a lot of people who have them. They seem more reliable than the iPhone now.

I have called several times to the store. They refuse to do any more for my phone. After I searched on the web and found many unhappy people. Seems this is a major problem with the motherboard on this phone. I was thinking of buying a new motherboard and installing it myself. However, the board is the same so the problem will come back. They changed my screen and this was a joke. Nothing happened and the problem continued. They finally gave me a new phone and within a few months it was doing the same thing. Now they are offering me an upgrade. However, I will have to pay them $800 USD to get the new phone. Not really worth it to me.

Yes they should fix the phones. I do not have an iPhone but I have never own anything other than Apple/Mac computers. Several years ago I bought a Performa. That thing gave me so much trouble I was ready to say I would never own a Apple/Mac again. I don't know how many times the repairman was out (luckily under warranty). Then I got a call from the repairman and he said he just found out that some of the Performas had the wrong motherboard put in and he thought mine was one of them. Sure enough mine had the wrong motherboard in it. After the repairman replaced the motherboard my Performa worked great. Never had any more problems with it. Right now I have a Mac Pro I bought about 10 years ago.

I have the iPad Air 2 and it is a fantastic tablet. I owned the iPhone 3G and also a 4. I never had an issue with either one of them. Then I decided I wanted the iPhone 6 Plus and now I wished I had never sold my old iPhone. I would go back to it in a heart beat. This phone is nothing but problems for me.

@poehere Do you think it has anything to do with the fact that Steve Jobs is no longer around?

@RichardMeister I have no clue at all. I just know there is an issue with how they constructed their motherboard for this phone.
