When I think about it in a way I think of August as the month that took Elvis from us. That year 1977 I was a wonderful 20 years old and have fond memories from that time. I was going to university and so I was enjoying my summer. Since I needed to earn some money for university that summer I was far away in Canada working as a counselor at a Latvian summer camp for children of all ages. I was there that I heard over the radio that the King had entered the Kingdom of Heaven.
Elvis’ final album Moody Blue came out in July 1977. The album went Gold and Platinum in September 1977 and once more Platinum in 1992. The songs were a mix of soft rock, country rock and doo wop.
Songs on this album included “Unchained Melody”, “If You Love Me (Let Me Know)”and my all time favorite “Moody Blue” among others.
I associated with “Moody Blue” because I was just like that going from one mood to another. For awhile I walked around with a pink T-Shirt upon which I had the words Moody Blue written in blue velvet. To my mind comes the phrase – The King is Dead Long Live the King. What that phrase actually is saying that it is a fact that the King of a certain country has died and the second part refers to the fact that there will be a new King. However in this case there will never be another King of Rock and Roll that title will forever belong to Elvis.
I found some images made of what Elvis might look like at 80 if he was alive. I have included one. What do you think?

Can you believe it's been forty years? Wow. And Elvis still is a force in music and popular culture.
