Most people know where the title of this series comes from, but if you don't, it's the famous quote from philosopher Rene Descartes ("I think, therefore I am"). Clearly a case of putting des cartes before des horses! Anyway, here's the next song on my list of favorites with "think" or a variation in the title. #9: I've Thought of Leaving You - Kitty Wells Yesterday I posted a Rose Maddox song from my exercise playlist and said Rose is my favorite female country singer. She is, but let's not discount the other greats...like the Queen of Country Music. Most people today don't understand why Kitty Wells was dubbed "the Queen of Country Music," but that's because today you can turn on any "country" station and hear as many -- if not more -- women as men! Back in the 50s, that simply was not the case. Kitty Wells came along and took her high-heeled foot and kicked that door down once and for all with the song "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels." Her long and illustrious career put her in the Hall of Fame and won her countless fans. She was married to her husband, Johnnie Wright of Johnnie and Jack fame, for 73 years -- till death did they part. This song, I discovered as an adult, was actually the "B" side (we had it on 45), and the "hit" side was "Password." I liked this side better; and, as my parents had me in charge of the stereo, this is the side that got played. And some trivia for you: the man who wrote this song, Lee Emerson, was murdered by SSgt. Barry Sadler, of "The Ballad of the Green Berets" fame. I've Thought of Leaving You Written by Lee Emerson Recorded by Kitty Wells From Country Music Time, 1964 You don't have to tell me things I already knew:
This is the first track on the Kitty Wells album, "Country Music Time" released on Decca Records in 1964.
