The Theory Behind Farewell to Lola Blue

I just read a theory about what Rancid's " Farewell to Lola Blue" is about. It makes sense to me and was in the song the whole time. Why you always have to go back and listen again to hear the true essence of music. The theory is it is about a bomber plane with a pin up girl painted on it. The pilot is 22 years old and content because he is fighting for a cause he believes in. He named the plane and the pin up of his girl Lola Blue. As fate would have it, the pilot and the plane get shot down over the sea, never to be heard from again. Whether that is a true story or not is a mystery. Could be just a generalized story that the band made up based on that time frame. What a cool song. I bet not many ever thought you could get that much of a story in 2 minutes and 17 seconds. Then it leaves you wondering, is that a true story? Does that theory make sense to you based on the lyrics? (Tim) "Farewell Lola Blue We're gonna miss you Farewell Lola Blue We're gonna miss you (Lars) 22 Year-old dive bomber pilot Flew into the Coral Sea With his girl stain painted on his Dauntless Fork-tailed devil got a Lola Blue (chorus) Farewell Lola Blue We're gonna miss you Farewell Lola Blue We're gonna miss you (Lars) May 6. 1942 now, was a good year to be 22 To have a cause and something to fight for And be in love with Lola Blue (chorus) Farewell Lola Blue We're gonna miss you Farewell Lola Blue We're gonna miss you (Tim) May 6. 1942, was a good year to be 22 To have a cause that mean something to you And be in love with the Lola Blue"

I am not sure, my gut is telling me is made up story, but more about respecting that time period.

I don't know what to make of it, it could be a fiction..unless there's a name and a record of this pilot.

They did not say no names other than the plane, probably a made up story.
