Some Interesting Similarities About "First Ladies" of U.S. Presidents

1. Lady-Bird Johnson, wife of Lyndon Johnson: Birth name: Claudia Alta Taylor: Born in 1912. Her mother died when she was 5 years old. Received a B.A. degree from the University of Texas in 1933 And a degree in Journalism in 1934 She bought a radio station: KTBC The epitaph she wanted: “She planted a tree.” 2. Eleanor Roosevelt: wife of Franklin Roosevelt: Her mother died when she was 8 years old. Her father died when she was 10 years old. 3. Elizabeth Wallace: “Bess” Truman: Wife of Harry Truman: Her father committed suicide when she was 18 years old. 4. Rosalynn Smith: wife of Jimmy Carter: Her father died when she was 13 years old. 5. Elizabeth Bloomer: “Betty” Ford: wife of Gerald Ford Her father died when she was 16 years old. He was overcome by carbon monoxide fumes while repairing his car in a closed garage. 6. Thelma Catherine Ryan: “Pat” Nixon: wife of Richard Nixon Her mother died when she was 13 years old. Her father died when she was 18 years old. Received a B.S. degree from UCLA in 1937. 7. Anne Frances Robbins: Nancy Reagan: Her father left and her mother remarried a Chicago neurosurgeon, Dr. Loyal Davis, who adopted Anne at the age of 14. I just thought it was interesting that several “first ladies” lost either their mother or father or both parents, early in life and were still able to move forward with their lives. We never know what some persons have endured in their lives.
