A Rustic Lampshade

DIY Lampshade

I made this kind of ratty looking lampshade out of jute rope and repurposed fabric (scraps from an old bedsheet) and despite its warts, it gives out a lovely amber glow which is perfect for indirect light in the room where I sit up late working (or playing) at the computer. This is the first time I ever tried something like this. Have you ever made something that came out better than expected?

Probably, but it's hard to see your shade in this image. Can you take a larger shot of it and post it in a comment? I thought maybe you used chinese paper or whatever it's called not material. I imagine the material is far enough away from the bulb that it won't burn? Which editing program did you use for your collage and writing options? I've used picmonkey for years but it's not as easy as it used to be. I also use photoscape for many things, but their collages are simple side by side ones that take up too much space.

@MarshaMusselman PicsArt just added the freeform collage option. It is free, but does not work on all devices.

@drannhh Nice. I'd not thought about doing that either, but at present I don't really have the extra time. Cool how you weaved it around the sticks. If you're looking to make some extra cash you could probably sell them somewhere like Etsy or your local area.

I have very rarely made anything at all. I'm not very "crafty" in that sense. But I think your lamp is quite creative.

Things do not always turn out, but I enjoy the process.

It looks amazing. You are very handy. I haven't made anything in a while but there have been times I have surprised myself.

Thank you, @1hopefulman I didn't realize the amber light would change the mood of the room so much.

Oh it certainly is charming Dr. Ann. I cannot recall the last time I ever made anything by hand. I like the photo collage maker too. Hope you are doing fine.

That's very creative of you. Yes I have tried something but nothing new, except that I have perfected it somehow.

it sounds like the bee's knees. I am creative but I''ve never made a lamp shade.

For me the root of creativity is usually necessity, @painsonslate I always think of most other people being more creative than me, but once in a while I come through.

I'm very inept at making things but I would do that with the lampshade. It would look awful but it would work. "recycle, reuse, repurpose" is my life motto, I never throw away anything that I can use for something else!

@dragon54u Very apt motto. Yes, mine has a bit of awfulness, but the concept works and it will do until something better comes along.
