Favorite Power Ballads #10 - "I won't Forget You

Seeing how I try to do two music series at the same time, I figure it's time to unleash another one. I recently did a countdown on 80's metal, so here is the softer side of that genre. I'm talking about the power ballad. They were quite popular in the 80's, and for every metal and hard rock band, they were pretty much required. #10 in the series: "I won't Forget You" by Poison. First of all, I loathe Poison. They killed hair metal, as far as I'm concerned. However, I will admit a fondness for "I won't Forget You." The song did quite well, reaching #13 on the Billboard Hot 100 Despite it's popularity, Poison cut it from their live shows in 1988, and did not perform it onstage again until 2003. As I said, I'm not a fan, but I do like this song. Enjoy! (Info verified by Wikipedia)

It was the theme song to my senior prom in high school, so the song has a special place in my heart.

I wonder if hair bands of the 80s will make a comeback? I loved the era, had great power ballads. Some of the lesser known bands of the time had some fantastic power ballads in the 80s. I guess Skid Row's 'i Remember You' said a lot in terms of prom and memories about the glam 80s.

Everyone had at least one power ballad. My #1 is by a guy that did exactly one power ballad.

It is one of the cooler names for a subgenre, for sure.

I never liked hair bands and power ballads. There were two universes in the 80s: alternative and hair band.

I'm with @JohnRoberts -- "power ballads" almost became a "parody" expression of hair bands. My favorite "power" ballad is probably "Only Women (Bleed)" by Alice Cooper, which was power ballad before there was such a term. And Alice's hair never saw a can of hair spray.

There were a few good ones. It seemed like they were mandatory.
