Sunday Outing and Frosties With My Sister

Today was a fairly decent day. My sister and I went out for a bit and had lunch at Taco Bell, then walked around the nearby shopping area and checked out the Halloween stuff that is already appearing in the stores. It may still be triple digits here but I am more than ready for fall, even though fall isn't much different from summer in northern California.
We ended up walking over to Wendy's and each got a small chocolate Frosty, which neither of us had had in years. It tasted exactly like I remembered. We never got to eat out much when I was little since our family was poor, but every year at Christmas time the local newspaper would host a coloring contest and you could turn in your submission at Wendy's and get a free Frosty. So our dad would take us kids there to turn in our colored pictures and get a Frosty.
I didn't wind up buying much today, but I did get some new baking pans from Big Lots. My old ones are in pretty rough shape -- they are about ten years old so I guess it's time to throw them out and replace everything. I don't remember my mom having to do that when I was younger, but stuff nowadays isn't really made to last. Anyway, I got a 13x9" pan, a 9x9" pan, and a loaf pan so now I can start baking again. Altogether the pans came to less than $14. There was a cherry bread recipe I found online that I really want to try so I'm excited about the loaf pan. Now to replace my pots and frying pans... Those might have to wait a bit, since they are more pricey. The ones I've got, the non-stick coating is coming off and I always feel anxious about using them.
Anyway that was my day. Not too exciting. The boyfriend and I will have to go grocery shopping in a little bit. I hope the crowds have died down by then because the lines in some of the stores earlier were crazy. You'd have thought it was Black Friday. I guess school must be starting back up so they're probably all doing their back to school shopping.
How was your Sunday?

I got a set of stainless steel pots and pans with lids at Walmart for about $54 couple years ago and I am very happy with them. I do not use the ones with coating, I heard they cause bad stuff in the body.
My Sunday was fun.

I will have to research stainless steel pots and pans. I'll probably either go with those or cast iron...or maybe those copper pans I keep seeing all over the place, although I don't know how good they are. I think one of my friends bought some so I will ask her what she thinks. I do worry about the pans with non-stick coating, especially once it starts flaking off. Who knows what kind of health issues it can cause. I think I read before it can cause cancer but I don't know if that's just fear mongering.
Glad you had a fun Sunday!

It sounds like you had a great day yesterday! =) My husband was home for most of the day so we enjoyed the day together as a family. It was pretty good.

Thanks for the tip! I have always heard good things about iron pans. It'd be nice to not have to replace everything every few years. Those non-stick pans don't last very long, at least not the ones I have (and they weren't cheap.)

@RubyHawk That's the reason I've never invested in iron pans before -- I am always worried that I won't season them properly and mess them up. But I looked up how to do it before online and it didn't seem that difficult.

@Srbageldog My iron pans are old and the good thing is the older they get the better they are. You do have to season iron before you use it. If you don't get instructions look online.. You can't cook in unseasoned iron pans

Is it Monday there already? I always forget that some places are a day ahead.
