The Year I Was Born: What Was Happening?

Doing My Morning Reading It is my habit to read while I have my morning cup of coffee. Today, I found something interesting, as I usually do, and I would like to share it with you. I had purchased a tiny little book, published by Warner Books, at the Cracker Barrel Restaurant recently that was focused on “milestones, memories, trivia and facts, news events, prominent personalities & sports highlights of the year.” There were many different years from which to choose, so I chose the year I was born. This tiny book has all sorts of facts about what happened in year I was born. I was fascinated with learning all these bits of information. One of the pages listed the names of famous persons who were born the same year I was born and that was of particular interest to me. Here are a few of their names. Joan Baez, a folk singer. She was always one of my favorite singers and I Iearned to sing several of her songs. Placido Domingo, an opera singer; Neil Diamond, another singer; Bob Dylan, a singer and songwriter. His real name was Robert Zimmerman. Chubby Checker, “the father of the Twist.” Also, both Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel. And David Crosby a folk-rock musician. I was particularly fascinated that all these famous singers were born the same year that I was born, because I love to sing and have sang on stage and on TV and with live bands most of my life. Now, I still sing at karaoke whenever I get the chance. The only other person listed, besides all these singers, was Jesse Jackson, a civil-rights leader. It makes me wonder, if he was also a good singer? Who knows, right? I purposely did not tell you the year. But, I will give you this hint. I was about six weeks old, when Pearl Harbor was bombed. If I ever see these little books again, I’m going to purchase the year I was married and the years that my children were all born, so I can gift the books to them. I think it’s fascinating to learn what all was happening in the year I was born. Do you know what was happening around the world, in the year that you were born?
