Favorite "Direction" Songs #2 - "Do You Believe in the Westworld?"

It's a new day, 2am here, I'm awake, so why not? It's time for #2 in my Favorite "Direction" Songs series, which celebrates songs with either "north," "south," "east," or "west" in the title. The second spot in the countdown is "Do You Believe In the Westworld?" by Theatre of Hate. Theatre of Hate was/is a British post punk group led by vocalist Kirk Brandon, who also fronts Spear of Destiny. For 11 years, their 1982 album, Westworld (produced by Mick Jones of The Clash,) was the band's only studio album, and featured their biggest hit, "Do You Believe in the Westworld?" Theatre of Hate was primarily a singles band, landing five Top 5 songs on the UK Indie chart, with "Westworld" being the only single to reach #1 (it stalled at #40 on the UK Singles chart.) "Do You Believe in the Westworld?" is a great slab of post punk goodness with a strong spaghetti western influence. And although Kirk Brandon's vocals can be an acquired taste (the Trouser Press Record Guide once noted that Brandon "Sings every song as if he's trying to rally the troops for one more charge up the hill,") his enthusiasm works just fine on this particular tune.
