Favorite Gary Moore Songs #9 - "The Messiah Will Come Again"

Rather than going with a theme in this particular music series, I am focusing on one artist: my favorite guitarist, the late Gary Moore. We are at #9 in the series: "The Messiah Will Come Again." When it came to cover songs, Gary Moore had exquisite taste, and "The Messiah Will Come Again" is no exception. From his 1989 album, After the War, Moore's remake of Roy Buchanan's tune is a guitar lover's dream. With a couple exceptions, Moore stayed true to Buchanan's original. While Buchanan used a spoken word intro, Moore's version is strictly instrumental. Moore also stretched the song a couple extra minutes, allowing him to throw in his own shredding, and shred he does! A bit bluesy at times, the song is kind of a hint at what was to come. After the War was Gary Moore's last hard rock album before he became a full time bluesman. It was several years before Moore would make another rock album. While it was not one of the four singles from After the War, "The Messiah Will Come Again" is definitely not filler, either. This thing is hot! (Info verified by Wikipedia)

I don't know him well, but he is a good instrumentalist. Worth listening too for sure.

@teamfreak16 I would rank him up there with the greats like Petty, Santana, Hendrix, Nuggent, and Chet Atkins....some with different styles but talented.

He was largely unknown over here. I used to hang out with a guitarist when I was in the Army. He had never heard of him.

That happens to me sometimes. Mostly when I try to play Thievery Corporation, for some reason.

It's quite interesting to listen to both versions, where you can clearly hear what made Gary Moore (and Roy Buchanan) so distinct in their styles.
